Silver City rendering 1

Silver City Main Street is a Milwaukee Main Street District, on National Avenue between 31st and 39th streets. CDS worked with Silver City on two design projects ─ a pocket park and a bus shelter. CDS created designs reflect Silver City’s optimism for the future of the District.

Pocket Park

Located between S. 32nd and S. Shea on National Avenue, this small triangular foot-print will be transformed into a community park. The design is a three phase process: SPRING, community creates and installs concrete-paver mosaics to encourage movement through the park. SUMMER, a “winter garden” is planted to ensure color all through the year. Featured plants include red bark dogwood, yellow dogwood, and evergreens. FOLLOWING SPRING, place benches in park to encourage longer visits.

Bus Shelter at Miller Parkway and National Avenue

The intersection of Miller Parkway and National Avenue is a highly active juncture. It also happens to be in the City of Greenfield. However, Silver City Main Street wanted to “adopt” this highly visible corner, which contains a busy bus-stop, as the official gateway to the District.  The bus stop had no shelter, so CDS created an eye-catching bus shelter, whose design would be repeated along the District at its three other bus stops. The bus stop is visually compelling, with advertising on the back and the Silver City Logo on the side. In harmony with the industrial character of this commercial corridor, it incorporates the use of concrete, wood and steel. While plantings are limited to reduce maintenance, the roof of the shelter collects water that drains into an attached flowerbox.
