Welcome...

Dean Michael R. Lovell
The College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) is proud to be the home of bright and forward-looking students, outstanding faculty, dedicated staff, and well accomplished alumni. I see a very important role for the college in providing high quality engineering and computer science education to our students and in enhancing the economic development of Milwaukee, Southeast Wisconsin, the state and our nation through conducting advanced research and technology transfer. Working together, we can make our city, nation and world a better place to live in.
UWM, with approximately 28,000 students, is one of only two Ph.D.-granting research institutions within the University of Wisconsin System. The College of Engineering and Applied Science at UWM is a leading educational provider with approximately 1,900 students, including over 300 at the graduate level. The college serves its students in six departments: Civil Engineering & Mechanics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Materials Engineering. The degrees offered by the college include B.S. and M.S. in Engineering, B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science, Ph.D. in Engineering with the disciplinary specialties listed above, and Ph.D. in Medical Informatics. We place a high priority on the education of all our students and offer high quality instruction by the best faculty in the field. We are proud of our CEAS graduates as they are consistently the top choice for local and other employers.
The CEAS faculty engages in state-of-the-art research that is supported by a wide range of government and industrial funding agencies. The research areas of our faculty are broad and include advanced materials, civil infrastructures, nano-technology, energy and fuel cell technologies, water resources, communication and electronics technologies, thermal science, engineering mechanics, manufacturing, computer science and engineering, ergonomics, biomedical engineering, and medical informatics. Our faculty has received a total of eight of the most prestigious grants awarded by the National Science Foundation (NSF): CAREER (Faculty Early Career Development Program) and the GOALI (Grant Opportunities for Academic Liaison with Industry) awards. This is a truly outstanding accomplishment on a national level, where CEAS is amongst only few academic institutions in terms of the percent of its faculty that have received these awards.
Our students directly benefit from the ongoing research at the college through participation in research laboratories and classroom instruction by our faculty. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has undertaken a new and aggressive strategy to increase its research productivity to an unprecedented level over the next few years. The College of Engineering and Applied Science will serve as a driving engine to achieve this bold goal. The coming years will be very exciting in CEAS and UWM and I invite you to be an active participant in this ambitious academic experience.
