Laboratory Profile

The role of the Advanced Coatings Experimental Experimental Laboratory (AceLab) is to grow functional coatings. AceLab is housed within the CEAS and focuses on the following activities:

• Thin film growth and design
• Sputter deposition with real-time plasma monitoring
• Smart coatings for corrosion control
• Creation of new nanoceramics

To grow functional coatings and conduct research, ACE provides faculty and students with:

• Multi-target, automated sputter deposition for film growth
• Equipment for physiochemical analysis of coatings
• State-of-the-art corrosion equipment, including electrochemical impedance spectroscopy
