Materials Engineers must use chemical and physical processes to provide new materials, more useful and valuable products, and improve the properties of existing materials.

Technical Electives
Students can select technical electives courses based on their particular area(s) of interests and choose from courses that cover topics such as:
- Welding Engineering
- Metal Casting Engineering
- Engineering Composites
- Electronic Materials
Materials Engineering Minor
Students in other majors that want to develop strength and background in materials engineering can complete an 18-credit materials engineering minor.
Math and Science
Students will take the following courses:
- Calculus I, II, and III
- Calculus-Based Physics I and II
- Chemistry for Engineering
General Education Requirements
All UWM students are responsible for completing General Education Requirements in arts, humanities, and social sciences, as well as competency requirements in English and a foreign language.
