Establishing Norms for New Examinations
For reliable national norms to be computed for ACS
examinations, it is essential that exams be administered and
scored uniformly at every site contributing data. If you
intend to contribute to this data pool (and we sincerely
hope you will), please follow these directions in addition
to those contained in the Directions
for Administering Examinations.
- For computation of national norms, we prefer that you
send us a spreadsheet file (Excel for Mac or Windows is
preferred), or a text file (Mac or DOS) containing the
student response data.
- If it is inconvenient to send the data file
electronically, we would appreciate receiving the answer
sheets themselves (if you use Examinations Institute
answer sheets or any of several common half-page Scantron
forms such as 882, 882-E, 2052, 20788, 21577, and 22532).
If you want your answer sheets back, we will return them
to you after extracting the data.
- We also request that you send us the information
requested in the College Examiner's Report or the High
School Examiner's Report. If you do not
send us a spreadsheet file the answer sheets, please also
complete the score report form.
National norms will be sent to every examiner supplying
data as soon as norms are computed. As an extra "Thank you"
to examiners who send in usable norming data, we will also
send you a report showing your student test statistics and a
histogram of your student responses overlaid on the
histogram for the national norming population.
The report forms are in .pdf format to preserve their
original format. You will need the latest Adobe Acrobat
Reader to view the file. You can download the free Acrobat
Reader directly from Adobe here:
