Interests & Expertise

Dr. Carol Mitchell is the Director of the Diagnostic Imaging Laboratory and Diagnostic Imaging Programs. In her role as program director, Dr. Mitchell works with accredited programs in the state of Wisconsin to offer the professional curriculum to UWM undergradutate radiologic technology and diagnostic medical songoraphy students. Dr. Mitchell also works actively with the diagnostic imaging advisory board to continue to develop graduate programs for diagnostic imaging professionals. Current graduate programs for diangostic imaging professionals include the College of Health Sciences Interdisciplinary PhD Program and the Masters of Science in Biomedical Sciences Program.

Dr. Mitchell's research interests include phantom development, ultrasound assessment of cardiovascular function, muscoskeletal imaging, contrast imaging, fetal echocardiography, congenital heart disease, ultrasound education, advanced sonography roles and educational outcomes. She also participates in protocol development for several clinical trials and ultrasound disciplines. The diagnostic imaging laboratory will be able to work collaboratively with researchers to develop imaging protocols, measurements and best practices. Dr. Mitchell's prior work has been directed at utilizing hybrid learning theory to teach practicing imaging professionals new technolgoy and taking new technology to clinical practice. Dr. Mitchell's current work is directed at developing imaging phantoms for research and educational use.
