Interests & Expertise
Dr. Prasad’s primary research interest lies in discourse-level natural language interpretation and generation, applied to the biomedical and healthcare domain. She is particularly interested in the identification and extraction of deep and complex inferences about events and situations mentioned in text, using a combination of rule-driven and machine learning techniques. Specific topics of Dr. Prasad current and past research include shallow discourse parsing, sentence planning for generation, interpretation and generation of discourse anaphora, and question generation from multi-sentential texts. Dr. Prasad has also worked extensively on developing linguistic knowledge resources for natural language processing, including grammars for parsing, and annotated corpora for a wide range of linguistic phenomena in multiple domains, including part-of-speech tagging, phrase structure constituency, speech acts, and discourse relations.
