Interests & Expertise

Dr. Ebersole conducts research pertinent to expanding the scientific knowledge base that informs the physiological basis for injury prevention, re-conditioning, strength training, and sport performance. Research projects have ranged from basic, traditional laboratory based paradigms to collection of data in the field. Recent projects have examined various parameters of muscle function which may serve as underlying mechanisms and/or risk factors for injury as well as markers for improvement in muscle strength in response to rehabilitation protocols. In addition, Dr. Ebersole has initiated a line of research exploring the application of heart rate variability as a measure of recovery and injury state. Other research activities of the Human Performance and Sport Physiology Laboratory have included the development of indices that discriminate between injured and uninjured muscle, skeletal muscle fatigue, and application of functional movement screens in the evaluation of athlete performance.
