Interests & Expertise

Dr. Stoffel's research focuses are

  1. the lived experience of parents and family members with a child with autism (collaborative work with Dr. Vickie Moerchen),
  2. evidence-based practices for occupational therapists working with substance use disorders (collaborative work with Dr. Penny Moyers Cleveland),
  3. motivational and coping strategies to promote change in substance use (collaborative work in the Center for Addiction and Behavioral Health Research),
  4. the lived experiences of clubhouse engagement and its relationship to mental health recovery.

Dr. Stoffel has worked on a number of leadership and service projects with the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and the American Occupational Therapy Foundation (AOTF). In addition, Dr. Stoffel facilitated development of the Wisconsin Occupational Therapy Association's (WOTA) Research and Scholarly Activities Committee and was a past Board member of the WOTA. She has served on the AOTA Specialties Board establishing Board Certification in Mental Health, and is currently Vice President of the AOTA Board of Directors, serves on their Representative Assembly and is Chair of the AOTA Centennial Commission. Dr. Stoffel is past chair of the Board of Directors for Mental Health America - Wisconsin, is a member of the Scientific Advisory Panel of the Wisconsin Women's Health Foundation, serves on the community advisory committee for Transitional Living Services, and is an editorial board member of Occupational Therapy in Mental Health: A Journal of Psychosocial Practice and Research.
