In the Phonetics Lab, we study the articulatory and acoustic characteristics of speech production. In particular, we are interested in how young children produce speech sounds as compared to adults, and what that tells us about the development of the phonological system in English-learning children. We use converging evidence from several sources including experimental speech production data, longitudinal speech corpora, and ultrasound recordings of tongue movements during the articulation of speech sounds.
