UWM New Freshmen Orientation

Hello, New Freshmen and welcome to the College of Health Sciences (CHS)!

Each summer, UWM holds day-long New Freshmen Orientation (NFO) programs to which admitted, incoming Freshmen are invited after they have taken Placement Tests and paid their Freshmen Fee. During each NFO session, time is set aside for academic advisors in each school and college to meet with students to assist them with navigating the UWM registration system (PAWS) to enroll in their first semester classes.

In the College of Health Sciences , three professional advisors guide students through five undergraduate majors: Kinesiology, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Health Care Administration, Communication Sciences and Disorders, and Occupational Studies. Anna San Diego's, Susan Gruzis's, and Katie Koncki's advising responsibilities are assigned as follows:

You may view the course requirements and curriculum plans for the majors listed above at www.uwm.edu/chs .

NOTE : If you have chosen Kinesiology or Clinical Laboratory Sciences as your major , advisors want to know which submajor you intend to pursue. If you did not indicate a choice of submajor when you applied to UWM, you can update/add that information when you register for your NFO date. Having this information ahead of time helps advisors to better plan your fall courses. If you are unsure about your major/submajor at this time, let your advisor know at your NFO session. You and she can talk about how best to get you started at UWM.

As much as the College of Health Sciences advisors would like to meet with students individually at NFO, there simply is not enough time for one-on-one advising during those busy sessions. Rather, you may schedule an individual appointment with your advisor at any time throughout the year. In fact, advisors encourage all students, especially New Freshmen, to schedule an advising appointment at least once per semester to help students stay on track with their degree requirements. Appointments are easy to schedule by calling the College of Health Sciences Student Affairs Office at 414.229.2758.

From the entire CHS advising staff, we look forward to seeing you this summer at New Freshmen Orientation!
