Elena Gorfinkel
Bio: Elena Gorfinkel is Assistant Professor of Art History and Film Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She is co-editor, with John David Rhodes, of Taking Place: Location and the Moving Image (University of Minnesota Press, November 2011.) She is also in the process of writing a book on sexploitation cinema and film culture of the 1960s. Her writing on cinephilia, erotic film culture and marginal cinemas can be found in Framework: The Journal of Cinema & Media, World Picture, Cineaste, and Camera Obscura (forthcoming, 2011) as well as in numerous edited collections, including Cinephilia: Movies, Love & Memory, Underground USA, and the Blackwell Companion to R.W. Fassbinder (forthcoming.) Her research and teaching interests include independent, underground and exploitation cinemas, women's filmmaking practice, gender/sexuality studies, international art cinema, cinephilia, film culture and criticism, and theories of aesthetics and embodiment. Gorfinkel received her Ph.D. in Cinema Studies from New York University in 2008.
