The Center for International Education is a comprehensive international office, encompassing key campus programs and services while fostering a campus-wide international teaching and research agenda. CIE creates connections among functions which, on many campuses, would normally be housed in multiple offices, thus encouraging collaborations and efficiencies in services.
In all of its endeavors, CIE seeks to foster a new, interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to international education at UWM, bringing together international and Milwaukee-based scholars and students, fostering a global perspective on local concerns, and linking Milwaukee to the world. CIE has adopted a cutting-edge teaching, research and outreach agenda focused on Global Studies.
UWM's new BA degree in Global Studies is the first of its kind in the nation: an academically-rigorous, pre-professional degree program that provides students with advanced language competencies, overseas study and internship experiences, and course work emphasizing globalization's impact on today's world.
The Global Studies initiative is driven by UWM faculty expertise. CIE supports faculty research through its conferences, grant opportunities, and publications, including both Occasional Papers and the "New Directions in International Studies" book series published by Rutgers University Press.
CIE's Institute of World Affairs emphasizes globalization issues in its programs and web-based resources for educators, business, media, and the public. With over 40 years of service as Wisconsin's only World Affairs Council, IWA is a vitar l bridge between the UWM campus and the community.
The Center of International Education is located on the first floors of Garland and Pearse Halls, on the corner of Downer Ave. and Harford Ave., in the Central Quad of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Campus. UWM provides printable color maps, printable black and white maps, online maps, and tours of the UWM campus.
