Student Travel Awards for Faculty-Led Research Programs

The Center for International Education and the Office of Undergraduate Research invite eligible undergraduate students to apply for travel awards for participation in faculty-led international research programs during UWinteriM 2010. Awards of $1000 will be made to support students' program expenses.

Eligibility Requirements: To be considered for and award, applications must meet all of the following requirements:

  1. Students must be enrolled in a UWM Bachelor's degree program.
  2. Students must have a GPA of at least 2.5
  3. Applications must be submitted in accordance with the application deadline and instructions (no later than Friday, October 9, 2009 at noon).
  4. Students must be enrolled in one of the following field research programs:

Informational Sessions: The Center for International Education and the Office of Undergraduate Research will hold informational meetings to help students with the grant application process and to answer any questions students have about the awards. It is very strongly encouraged that all travel award applicants attend one of these sessions. In previous award cycles, students who attended an informational session were more likely to receive an award. The sessions are:

Application: The following documents provide information about the travel awards and how to apply. The Microsoft Word document is a form that students should type directly onto. When saving the document, please pay particular attention to instructions for how the document should be titled.

Deadline: The deadline for travel award applications is Friday, October 9 at noon. All applications must be emailed to Yomarie Tejada according to the directions on the application instructions and application form. Because of the tight turn-around time for announcing award winners, no late applications will be accepted.

The deadline for the travel award application is set before the general program application deadline because these funds are meant to assist students who might otherwise not be able to afford to study abroad participate in an international research experience. Given this, it is necessary that students know prior to the program confirmation deadline whether or not they'll receive the $1000 award.

Contact: After reading through and downloading the information provided above and attending an informational session, if you have any questions about this travel award, please contact Yomarie Tejada (ytejada@uwm.edu or 229-6581).
