Lara Deeb
Professor of Anthropology, Scripps College

Lara Deeb is Chair of the Anthropology Department at Scripps College in Claremont, California. She is the author of An Enchanted Modern: Gender and Public Piety in Shi’i Lebanon (Princeton University Press, 2006). She is currently a Collaborative Research Fellow with the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) working on a project entitled: "Constructing and Negotiating the Islamic Milieu: New Moralities and Spatialities in Shi'i Lebanon." Her research interests include: gender and sexuality, religion, modernities, time/temporalities, memorialization and history, youth, leisure and space, and Middle East Studies.
