Studies Certificate Program

This page offers information on UWM's Middle Eastern and North African Studies Certificate Program, including:

Overview
:

Students completing this program of study earn the Certificate in Middle Eastern and North African Studies. This certificate is given at the time the bachelor's degree is awarded. The program leading to the certificate is of interest to students majoring in any field, but especially to those majoring in history, Hebrew studies, political science, international studies, comparative literature, and philosophy.  The Committee for Middle Eastern and North African Studies administers the program and advises students. In addition to taking courses related to the Middle East and North Africa, students have opportunities to meet and study with Middle Eastern scholars who regularly visit UWM through a number of institutional partnerships with Middle Eastern universities. Students also may take advantage of study abroad programs that offer credit for academic work in the Middle East and North Africa. These include UWM's semester program in Israel and summer program in Morocco, as well as others.

General Requirements:

  • Language competence is required but may be acquired elsewhere, with certification by the relevant language department at UWM.
  • Courses totaling at least 29 credits must be completed with a GPA of 2.75 or better
  • At least one half of the work for the certificate must be taken at UWM.
