Asian Studies Certificate Program

The Asian Studies Certificate is designed to allow students to combine the study of Asian languages, culture, politics, and history to any degree program. Supported by a growing faculty of Asian specialists in a wide-variety of disciplines, the certificate program offers courses and other opportunities designed to prepare students for any future endeavor relating to this developing and exciting area of the world.

The Asian Studies Certificate is open to students majoring in any field, to students who previously received a bachelor's degree from UWM or any other accredited college or university, and to those who do not plan to pursue a college or university degree (non-degree students) but who have a strong interest in this subject.

Students enrolling in the Certificate Program are required to earn a minimum of eighteen credits, at least nine of which must be completed at UWM, and achieve a grade point average of 2.7 or above in all courses counting toward the certificate.

The Asian Studies Certificate is designed in two forms:
  • General Certificate – Geography 213 (3 cr.), and 15 credits of approved electives
  • Language Focus –Geography 213 (3 cr.), a minimum of 12 credits in a single Asian language, and 15 credits of approved electives
For more information on the certificate, or to enroll, please contact Andrea Joseph, Garland Hall 111 or 229-6825.
