CIE Faculty Travel Award

This document provides the following information on CIE Faculty Travel Grants:

AWARD ELIGIBILITY:

Full-time UWM tenure-track faculty are eligible to apply for Center for International Education (CIE) international travel awards.  A maximum of $500 will be provided for each award.

Faculty who have received CIE faculty travel awards within the preceding fiscal year are not eligible for an award in the current fiscal year.

SCOPE OF AWARD:

Awards will be given partially to defray University-approved travel expenses (transportation, room, board, and conference fees).

Awards will be limited to support for:

  • research leading to results expected to be disseminated in scholarly papers, books, or other means
  • formal participation, performance, or exhibition outside the U.S.  Participation is defined as presenting the results of research at an international professional meeting, not merely attending a conference. Appropriate documentation must be submitted.
  • curriculum development
  • travel to plan, develop, or strengthen exchange programs for students to earn degree credits through overseas study or internships, and for faculty to participate in research and scholarship at foreign institutions.

APPLICATION FOR AWARD:

Award requests must be accompanied by one of the following:

  • an appropriate invitation and an abstract of the applicant's research
  • a concise description of the new course the applicant proposes to develop
  • a concise description of a proposed or existing exchange program.

Requests must be submitted to CIE on the dedicated application form (below), along with supporting documents.

AWARD-RELATED COMMUNICATIONS WITH THE CIE:

By June 1st of the fiscal year in which the award is made, the award recipient must have either:

  • submitted a Travel Expense Report to the CIE; or
  • made arrangements with the CIE to apply the award toward the purchase of an airline ticket.

If this requirement is not satisfied, the travel award cannot be claimed by the recipient.

AWARD APPLICATION SUBMISSION DEADLINES:

Requests must be submitted by one of four deadlines:

  • June 1 - for travel between July 1 and September 30
  • September 1 - for travel between October 1 and December 31
  • December 1 - for travel between January 1 and March 31
  • March 1 - for travel between April 1 and June 30

Kindy submit all materials to:

Larry Borchardt, Garland Hall 138 or via fax at (414) 229-3626

Award notification will be made two weeks after the award submission deadline.
