Study Abroad 101
Explore this website for general program and procedure information. Apply for a passport, if you do not have one already.
Stop by the CIE Study Abroad Office for walk-in advising. Meet with one of our peer advisors. They can tell you about different program options, general program requirements, and answer any questions you have. They are also happy to share their study abroad experiences. We are located in Pearse Hall, Room 166, and are open Monday-Friday, 8 am - 4:30 pm.
Attend the Study Abroad Fair held early in the fall and spring semesters in the Union Concourse. Learn about program options. Be introduced to program leaders directing UWM study abroad programs. Get financial advising from UWM financial aid officers.
Attend a general study abroad advising session to talk to study abroad staff about general or program-specific questions, application and acceptance processes, finances, credit transfer, and other aspects of study abroad. General advising sessions are held at the beginning of each semester.
Select a program and schedule an appointment with a study abroad coordinator to discuss program-specific details. Stop by Pearse Hall, Room 166, or call (414) 229-5182 to schedule an appointment.
Apply for a program. Application due dates are March 1st for fall and academic year programs, March 15th for summer programs, October 1st for spring programs and October 15th for UWinteriM programs. Note: Some programs may have earlier application deadlines.
After you are accepted:
- Confirm your participation in your study abroad program via your online application page;
- Complete all necessary forms by their due date;
- Complete all financial aid forms;
- Attend a mandatory general pre-departure orientation (or complete and online orientation quiz);
- Attend a mandatory site-specific orientation; and
- Apply for a visa (if needed).
