Information and Advising
The CIE Study Abroad Office staff work with students through walk-in advising, group advising sessions, and individual advising appointments to help them prepare for their international experience. Our goal is to help you find the program that is right for you, prepare you for your international experience, and offer support and guidance each step of the way.
Walk-in Advising
If you are interested in studying abroad but don't know where to start, stop by the CIE Study Abroad Office during normal business hours to discuss program options, learn how to begin planning for an education abroad experience, and get answers to questions you might have.
Scheduled Advising
Once you have identified a program of interest, schedule an appointment with a study abroad coordinator. At this formal advising session you will be able to ask specific questions about the study abroad program you are interested in. The coordinator you meet with will also give you guidance on selecting courses that will fit with your degree program, describe the application process, and discuss financial aid and scholarship opportunities with you.
Study Abroad Fair
The CIE Study Abroad Office organizes fall and spring study abroad fairs in the UWM Union Concourse. Attend the fair to:
- Meet and speak with staff from the CIE Study Abroad Office.
- Speak with program leaders directing UWM study abroad programs.
- Learn about a wide-range of study abroad opportunities.
- Chat with international exchange university students about their home universities.
- Get financial advising from UWM financial aid officers.
Study Abroad Library
During normal business hours you are welcome to make use of our extensive education abroad library. The library contains information about different cultures and countries, working, volunteering, and teaching abroad, and travel best practices.
General Advising Sessions
General Advising Sessions take place at the beginning of each semester. Students can learn about program options, the application process, how to finance study abroad, and academic issues. Advising sessions include plenty of time to ask any questions you might have.
