CIE is committed to making the study abroad application process as easy and efficient as possible. To do so, we need students' cooperation. Failing to meet deadlines causes problems with course registration, student visa application, housing as well as many other things that students need to do prior to going abroad. Additionally, missed deadlines create unnecessary work for students, for CIE, and for our partner organizations and institutions abroad. This time and effort could be better used to improve programs and services available to students.
In order to serve students better, we have found it necessary to institute the late fees. These fees are the result of a significant number of students failing to meet stated deadlines in the past. It is our expectation that the late fee will provide incentive for all students to pay better attention to reading materials and meeting study abroad deadlines.
Students are charged a $50 late fee if they apply to a program after its scheduled application deadline and/or if they fail to complete CIE's general or D2L pre-departure orientation.
A $50 late fee is also charged to students who have applied to a program if the following required forms and documents are not received by a program's confirmation deadline:
CIE adds late fees directly to students' PAWS accounts. Failure to pay late fees (and overall program costs) results in a hold being placed on their university record.
