Barro Colorado Island
Barro Colorado Island (BCI) is an ideal location for a research experience for teachers. BCI is an internationally known research station, located in a forested island nature preserve in central Panama and run by the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI). This field station provides modern offices and laboratories, a state-of-the-art library, herbarium, dormitories, cafeteria, and two weekly research seminars (one on BCI and the other at the Smithsonian facility in Panama City). The large number of researchers working at BCI bring different levels of specialization and experience (from undergraduate to graduate students, post docs to professors), and thus provides a truly inspiring and invigorating environment for participating RET teachers.
