2/26/09 CMS Upgrade Update: Timeline, Testing and Open sessions

On Sunday, March 15, UITS will be upgrading the CMS software from version 4.6.3 to version 5.0.3. For more information on new features and functionality, see the v5 release notes summary.

Scheduled outages

The upgrade will require a scheduled outage for the UWM.edu web site and all other web sites on the www4.uwm.edu ColdFusion web server environment. The outage will be on Sun, Mar 15 from 2:00 am to 6:00 am. Further communications to the campus regarding the UWM.edu scheduled outage will be forthcoming.

The upgrade will also require disabling CMS authoring from Fri, Mar 13 at 8:00 pm until Sun, Mar 15 at 6:00 am. During this authoring outage, CMS admins and authors will not be able to make changes to web site content using the CMS.

CMS testing and review environment

To help CMS admins and authors prepare for the upgrade, UITS will be providing access to a testing and review environment running CMS v5.0.3. CMS admins and authors are encouraged to use the CMS test environment to test their web sites on CMS v5.0.3 and to experience the new authoring user interface, features and functionality. They are invited to begin accessing the CMS test environment starting Mon, Mar 2. Issues or questions related to CMS v5.0.3 should be directed to cms-help@uwm.edu.

Another announcement with details on accessing the CMS test environment will be sent directly to CMS admins and authors on the morning of Mon, Mar 2. If CMS admins and authors would like to gain access to the CMS test environment earlier than Mon, Mar 2, please contact cms-help@uwm.edu.

Open sessions for issues or questions

Open sessions have been scheduled to allow local CMS admins and authors a chance to discuss any issues or questions they may have. These sessions will be on the following dates/times:

Fri, Feb 27 at 10:00 am
Wed, Mar 4 at 2:00 pm
Wed, Mar 11 at 1:00 pm (new session)

All sessions will be held in Sabin 394.
