International Council of Nurses

The International Council of Nurses (ICN) is a federation of national nurses' associations (NNAs), representing nurses in more than 134 countries.

Founded in 1899, ICN is the world's first and widest reaching international organization for health professionals. Operated by nurses for nurses, ICN works to ensure quality nursing care for all, sound health policies globally, the advancement of nursing knowledge, and the presence worldwide of a respected nursing profession and a competent and satisfied nursing workforce.

The International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP®) is a unified nursing language system. It is a international standardized terminology for nursing practice that facilitates the development of and the cross-mapping among local terms and existing terminologies. ICNP is a component of the larger ICN eHealth Programme

The UWM College of Nursing is excited to participate in this initiative with ICN to advance nurses knowledge of and involvement in eHealth worldwide.
