Who are the UWM Campus Ambassadors?
The University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee Campus Ambassadors (CAs) are a prestigious group of students who are recognized and called upon for their leadership and contributions to the life and culture of the University. Students participate in a variety of campus activities, initiatives, and mentoring designed to better shape the direction of new freshmen, help attain the University’s goals, and further augment its schools, colleges and other campus units.
The 2007-2008 Campus Ambassadors have been a dynamic group of individuals who helped welcome over 4,400 new freshmen and their families to the UWM community. In the 2008-2009 school year, a whole new group of student leaders will serve as part of the Campus Ambassador team. You could be part of the team! Learn more about the Campus Ambassador position.
For the 2008-2009 academic year, the Campus Ambassador role at UWM will encompass three different positions. Campus Ambassadors can apply for and fill any combination of these three positions. The three positions that our 2008-2009 Campus Ambassadors will be filling are…
New Freshman Orientation Leader -
Campus Ambassadors engage and welcome new freshmen students and their parents at the New Freshman Orientation programs during the summer months. As a New Freshman Orientation Leader you may be giving tours, administering materials, and/or helping students register for classes during any one of our New Freshman Orientation Programs.
Freshman Mentor –
After students have been to New Freshman Orientation, the Freshman Mentors will be charged with helping new freshmen acclimate to campus. As a Freshman Mentor you will be focusing on connecting with these students via phone, email and face-to-face throughout the academic year and helping them adjust to campus life.
FirstYear CenterStaff –
The First Year Center (FYC) Staff will be planning and implementing academic and social programming to engage new freshmen successfully in their classes and in the campus community. FYC Staff will be working on a daily basis within the FYC and with Freshman Mentors to create programs and facilitate mentoring.
Note: Each position listed above will also contain a “LINKS-like” mentor opportunity. What is a LINKS mentor? LINKS mentors have traditionally focused on working with freshmen of color and/or students who have participated in the Academic Opportunity Center programs.
If you are applying for a Campus Ambassador position, and have a strong interest in working with the population of students traditionally serviced by LINKS mentors, please check the appropriate box on the application form.
