UWM Center for Urban Initiatives and Research

CUIR serves as the home for several major research grant and
evaluation projects, and conducts applied research for local governments,
community-based agencies and departments of state governments. CUIR also
facilitates partnerships between UWM faculty, staff, and students and the
Milwaukee area community. |

Office of Student Life

The OSL staff helps students to resolve problems, understand university procedures,
obtain resources and services, and to fully participate in campus life. This is
accomplished through the use of seven specialized unit. |

The Milwaukee Idea

The Milwaukee Idea is a collaboration between UWM and metropolitan Milwaukee that
make both stronger, better, and greater. It is built on our tremendous capacity
for discovery and scholarship, exemplary teaching and learning and collaborative
service and outreach. |

Peace Corps
|
The Peace Corps strives to promote world peace and friendship by providing
Volunteers who contribute to the social, economic, and human development of
interested countries. The Volunteers develop a spirit of service, dedication,
and idealism. |

Public Allies
 |
Public Allies builds strong community leadership among young adults through
leadership training and professional apprenticeships in community
organizations. They offer young adults the opportunity to strengthen their communities
in a new alliance with people from neighborhoods, non-profits, business and government. |

AmeriCorps
|
AmeriCorps members train volunteers, tutor and mentor at-risk youth, build housing,
clean up rivers and streams, help seniors live independently, provide emergency
and long-term assistance to victims of natural disasters, and meet other community needs. |

Campus Compact
 |
Campus Compact is an organization actively engaged both on and off campuses in
community service. Participating students spend time establishing or engaging
in programs to reduce racial tension clean up the environment, work with the
hungry and homeless, teach children to read and more. |

Habitat for Humanity
|
Habitat for Humanity works internationally to combat homelessness around the
world. UWM has a campus chapter that meets regularly and is raising money to
build a UWM Habitat House! |
