Tests Offered at UWM
The UWM Testing Center provides a variety of services to meet your testing and assessment needs. Whether you need to take your ACT test, placement test or test to earn college credit, the Testing Center can assist you.

New Freshman Placement Testing New Freshmen are required to participate in UWM's testing program. Placement testing must be completed prior to registering for classes.
Test Description
ACT (Residual) Testing This college entrance exam is used to determine admission to the university.
Admissions Test Series This series of tests is required of applicants who do not meet UWM's standard admission criteria.
Challenge Exams Challenge exams are offered through various departments and serve to exempt a student from specific department prerequisites.
CLEP (College Level Exam Program) CLEP is a series of examinations that allow individuals to earn college credit for what they already know.
Correspondence Testing The UWM Testing Center provides proctoring services for candidates participating in distance education, independent study, and correspondence testing for colleges, universities, or organizations.
ESL-PIC (English as a Second Language - Placement in Composition Test) If you use a language other than English at home, you should take this test.
Miller Analogies (MAT) This test is a series of analogies designed to measure a person's reasoning ability. It is an entrance requirement for some graduate programs.
Placement Testing These tests help determine which classes you are able to take in the given subject. Transfer students and re-entry students may be required to take placement tests depending on previous course work and intended major. All incoming New Freshmen admitted to UW-Milwaukee are required to register for the New Freshman Testing Session.


National Tests Offered at UWM
The UWM Testing Center administers the following tests on various weekends throughout the year. There is a fee for each examination, payable directly to the testing company. Click on the links below for more information on a specific test.
  • ACT - (National) This college entrance exam is used to determine admission to the university. This exam is offered at UWM four times a year. UWM Center Code: 4658
  • GRE - (Graduate Record Exam) Subject only. This exam is used for admission to certain graduate programs.
  • LSAT - (Law School Admittance Program) This exam is required for admissions to Law school.
  • MCAT - (Medical College Admission Test) This exam is used for admission into Medical College.
  • PCAT - Pharmacy College Admission Test Intended for use by colleges of pharmacy
  • PPST - (Pre Professional Skills Test) This is a state test is used as part of the teacher certification process. Computer Testing is offered at Fox Point 414-540-2220, Brookfield (262) 796-0808 or Racine (262) 554-6612.
  • PRAXIS II - (Professional Assessments for Beginning Teachers) is a set of rigorous and carefully validated assessments that provides accurate, reliable information for use by state education agencies in making licensing decisions.
  • TOEFL - (Test of English as a Foreign Language) The Test of English as a Foreign LanguageTM (TOEFL) measures the ability of nonnative speakers of English to use and understand English as it is spoken, written, and heard in college and university settings.
