From December 2004 to April 2006, the Office of Federal Contractor Compliance Programs conducted an audit of UWM's employment practices and Affirmative Action Plan ("AAP" or "plan").

In April 2006, the OFCCP issued its findings.  While the OFCCP found no discrimination and did not impose any penalties on UWM, it found omissions in UWM's AAP.  In August 2006, UWM entered into a Conciliation Agreement with the OFCCP and agreed to submit two 6-month reports regarding hiring and recruitments during the reporting period.

In March and September of 2007, UWM provided the two reports mandated by the OFCCP.  The OFCCP has concluded that both reports were complete and met all of the requirements of the August 2006 Conciliation Agreement.

On December 18, 2007, the OFCCP met with UWM officials, including the Department of Human Resources and Equity and Diversity Services, to review and discuss UWM's latest Affirmative Action Plan, for 2006-2007.  The OFCCP also reviewed a random sampling of UWM's completed I-9 forms.

Following the December 18 visit, the OFCCP provided helpful commentary about UWM's AAP, including suggestions for adding more background information and completing the plan within a shorter time period from the data closing date of October 31 of each year.  The OFCCP also found errors in the completed I-9 forms, such as blanks that were not completed.

UWM will continue to work with the OFCCP as it completes its plan for 2007-2008.  The Department of Human Resources is also providing additional training to the campus on the completion and certification of I-9 forms in January 2008.
