CIPD Book Discussions: Engaging Large Classes (Part 2 - Chapters 5-8)

This fall, the CIPD book discussion series focuses on researched principles and practical strategies to incorporate assessment, active learning, peer facilitators, teams, and civility in large classes using the well-received book, Engaging Large Classes (Stanley & Porter, 2002). Participants will co-facilitate and explore these chapters in four sessions as they develop or re-affirm their own understanding of how to engage students in large classes. The final book section focuses on specific disciplinary practices. Please read Chapters 5-8 for this session. Key concepts in these chapters include: -active learning -learning in teams; logistics; teaching assistants -classroom technology -inclusion Participants who register for a total of two of the four sessions or who volunteer to facilitate a session will receive a free copy of the book. Please read Chapters 5-8 for this session. Notify Cheryl Jones, CIPD Program Associate of your commitment by Sept. 6th and she will order your copy.
