GroupWise to PantherLink Migration
July 29, 2008
University Information Technology Services (UITS, formerly I&MT)
recently launched PantherLink to replace PantherMail and PantherCal
across campus. The time is nearing for the CHS and SOE to transition to
PantherLink, which combines e-mail and calendaring functionality.
All CHS and SOE faculty and staff will be moved to PantherLink by the
beginning of the spring 2009 semester. BATO staff will work with each
school/college to create a plan to transition to PantherLink between
September and January. BATO will ask for volunteers to move over
earlier.
Effective immediately, however, all NEW faculty and staff will be set
up with PantherLink in an effort to avoid the need for newcomers to
learn both GroupWise and the new system. This means that -- for a
limited window of time -- CHS and SOE faculty and staff will be using a
mixture of GroupWise and PantherLink. Please be assured that all
faculty and staff will have fully functioning e-mail and calendaring
systems. The temporary melding of systems should not result in
significant electronic communication issues and will not impact the use
of group e-mail lists. Any problems that may arise will be addressed
immediately.
Some benefits of PantherLink include:
* Increased e-mail quotas starting at 5,000 MB (20 times larger than
GroupWise)
* User-friendly Web interface with drag-and-drop functionality, message
tagging, multiple calendars.
* Compatibility with Microsoft Outlook client, a familiar e-mail desktop client
* Over-the-air synching with mobile devices such as Treo, Blackjack, and
iPhone
