The English As A Second Language Program (ESL) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee offers two specialized programs for students whose first language is not English.

Intensive English Program

The Intensive English Program offers intensive, focused instruction for 20 hours every week. This program includes work in Listening Comprehension, Reading and Writing. An advanced level combines all of these for more in-depth academically oriented training. All the classes are non-credit.

ESL Writing Courses For Credit

If you are a UWM student who learned another language before learning English, you can complete your required writing courses by taking ESL writing courses for credit instead of the writing courses designed for native speakers of English. In the ESL writing courses, you will learn not only what native speakers of English learn in college writing courses, but also the English language skills that you need to succeed in all of your university courses.

The most important thing is I'm making progress in English because the teachers do very good jobs. I appreciate this program.
