International Teaching Assistants

UWM—International Teaching Assistant Assessment (UW-MITAA)

This assessment is a requirement for screening those individuals who intend to become International Teaching Assistants here at UW–Milwaukee. The UW-MITAA will be offered four times throughout the year: twice during each of the fall and spring semesters—at the beginning, to place the new ITAs, and as a follow-up test to the Oral Skills for International Teaching Assistants course offered each semester.

The UW-MITAA takes approximately 20 minutes. It is conducted in Curtin Hall and is videotaped and kept for two years for further reference. The ITA will be responsible for registration (Curtin Hall, 672, ESL Programs Office). The ITA will be required to present a 10 minute lecture—on a topic of his/her choosing that is related to his/her field of study. Note: The presentation should be directed toward a freshman audience, not a graduate level audience. There will then be a 5 minute period in which the ITA will be asked to respond to questions concerning his/her lecture.

Registration for the test is in the ESL office, Curtin 672. The cost of the test is $35. Note: The cost of $35 will be waived if the applicant can present a Letter of Offer from his/her department at the time of registration for the assessment.

Questions: Contact Mark Sondrol, ITA Coordinator at sondrol@uwm.edu or call 229-4891.
