Shapefiles and Databases for the U.S.
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Employment and Training Institute
prepared data files from the U.S. Census 2000 Summary File 3 (SF3)
and shapefiles from U.S. Census 2000 cartographic boundary files to assist
those researchers and students interested in mapping U.S. Census data
on the workforce density and household/income data by census tracts,
block groups, or zipcodes. Users
can access ESRI shape files from this website by region for the
continental U.S.
These files are designed to be easily joined with workforce and household/income databases
from the U.S. Census. Zipped data files
contain
descriptions of the variables drawn from SF3 of the 2000 Census as well as a .DBF file which
can be joined on the "Key" variable to the shapefiles.
2000 U.S. Census workforce and household/income data is available for the continental U.S.
by tract, block group, and ZCTA (ZIP Code Tabulation Area). Business data files for 1995-
2001 are available at the ZIP Code level only.
