Transfer Student Scholarship Now Available for 2008-09

The UWM Faculty/Staff Transfer Student Scholarship Fund is offering scholarships of up to $3,000 to high achieving undergraduate students transferring to UWM from two-year campuses in the UW System or the Wisconsin Technical College System. Applications are due in the Financial Aid Office by April 15.

Kiplinger's video - "Borrow Smart"

April has again this year been designated "National Financial Literacy Month" through a special resolution sponsored by members of the U.S. Senate. The topic of financial literacy has taken on a special significance as families are affected by the national credit crunch.

Kiplinger has developed an educational video on how to borrow wisely, manage education debt and make the most economical decisions when it comes to student financial aid. Entitled "Borrow Smart," the easy-to-understand and informative 24-minute video first offers tips on saving, keeping costs low, and accessing scholarships and grants. Kiplinger's experts also advise families on how to borrow wisely and only when needed, in order to make your college investment a wise one.


NASFAA Creates Handout for Students with Credit Crunch Questions

Despite some troubling reports in the media, students will be able to borrow federal student loans and receive financial aid this fall. The federal government and student loan companies have assured colleges that they will not allow recent developments in the credit markets to prevent students from getting loans.
