Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for financial aid a student must:
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the appropriate year. This can be done online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.
- Be admitted to UWM in a degree granting program or as an eligible special student.
- Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
- Be enrolled at least half-time, except for PELL grant consideration.
- Meet Academic Progress Standards as defined below by the Financial Aid Office.
- Not be receiving federal or state financial aid from another institution for the same enrollment period.
- Be registered with Selective Service (male students only.)
- Not be in default on a student loan.
- Not owe a refund on any federal (Title IV) aid.
- Not have their eligibility suspended or terminated due to a drug-related conviction.
PLEASE NOTE:
- Students working on a second degree will be evaluated for Federal Perkins and Nursing Loans, Federal Stafford Loans, and Federal Work-Study funds.
- Graduate students will be evaluated for Federal Perkins and Nursing Loans, Federal Stafford Loans, and Federal Work-Study funds.
- Second majors (with prior baccalaureates) are not eligible for grants, loans, or federal work-study.
- Special Students and non-degree Graduate Students are not eligible for financial aid except in cases explained below.
