ABOUT US

What are the Stringalongs?
The Stringalongs are nationally attended vacation retreats featuring recording and performing artists from all over the U.S. who offer concerts and classes at a beautiful resort in southeastern Wisconsin. Staff and classes are fresh and new each time, and include such topics as singing, dancing, crafts and instrument building, ecology, storytelling and folklore, songwriting, jamming and lessons (novice to advanced) on guitar, banjo, mountain dulcimer, autoharp, fiddle, mandolin, Japanese koto, pan pipes, hammered dulcimer, tinwhistle, harmonica, African drumming, etc. Singing classes may include gospel, barbershop, harmony singing, and more. There is a Pre-Stringalong session (Thursday evening and Friday during the day) of In-Depth sessions and group staff concerts. Spouses and friends of Stringalong registrants can share sleeping rooms, meals, staff concerts, and the evening program for a greatly reduced fee while spending the day enjoying the spa, an 18-hole golf course, swimming pool, and more.

History
The Folk Center was founded by Ann Schmid in 1983 in what is now the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee's Peck School of the Arts.
