“I always tell people that Stringalong is one of my favorite things in life.” –Miriam Larsen, music therapist

Dear Friends of the Folk Center,

Have you made wonderful, lasting friends at the Stringalongs? Do you enjoy getting together between Stringalong Weekends to jam and sing? Do the skills you have learned at Stringalongs, the CDs you buy, the magazines, festivals and concerts, and other resources you discover bring you joy all year long? Have the Stringalongs become more than just another routine weekend in your year? Do you simply believe in them?

We are an all-volunteer organization and we depend heavily on membership income. We attract some of the top acoustic and world music artists, ecologists, dancers, and craftspeople in the country to our Stringalong Weekends. With your help, we can continue to bring you the best! The gift of quality education and entertainment is a generous, wonderful gift indeed, and it just cannot happen without you.

The simple financial facts do not change: We are dedicated to keeping tuition low to reach out to the many members of our folk music community who could otherwise not afford to attend. Many artists do a two-hour concert attended by hundreds of people and have only themselves to pay. The Stringalongs ask four days of their time, our tuition income is among the lowest in the country, and there are usually 30 staff to pay, plus their travel and lodging, and all our operating expenses. We receive no subsidizing funds from UW-Milwaukee, and we simply cannot continue to afford outstanding artists without your help. Please join the Stringalong family and be a vital part of this great event. Send your tax deductible check (made out to “Music Workshops”) to Ann Schmid, Director, Milwaukee Folk Center, 2960 N. Marietta Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53211. Allow us to thank you for your kindness with the membership benefits, below. Call 414-339-3655 with questions.
