Scholarships for current SFS students
School of Freshwater Sciences graduate students are eligible to apply for the following scholarships and awards. Application materials and guidelines are available in the sections listed below. For additional information, please contact Margret Petrie (petriem@uwm.edu).

  • Watertech of America Scholarship in Memory of Eugene VandenHeuvel
    Joseph and Linda Russell, owners of Watertech of America, seek to honor the memory of Watertech's founder, Eugene "Gene" VandenHeuvel, through the establishment of the first endowed scholarship for SFS students. See SFS Student Scholarship below for criteria and application form.
                      
  • School of Freshwater Sciences (SFS) Student Scholarship
    Awards will be considered in support of internship experiences, workshops, or visiting another laboratory to acquire specialized technical expertise that supports student research.

SFS MS Thesis and PhD opportunities
School of Freshwater Sciences graduate students are eligible for the following assistantships and fellowships.

  • Research Assistantships
    Research assistantships (RA) provide support for specific research projects through external grants and projects awarded to individual faculty.  RA's provide recipients with:
       - A monthly stipend;
       - Tuition remission;
       - State-sponsored health insurance.

    RAs are available through SFS faculty grants. We encourage applicants to contact faculty whose research interests align with their own. Current RA opportunities include but are not limited to:
  • Fellowships
    A limited number of fellowships, generally used for first-year support, are available for M.S. thesis track and Ph.D. students. If you'd like to be considered for a fellowship, discuss this with your intended major advisor. In addition, please provide this information in your reasons statement within your graduate school application.
