Guaranteed Transfer

Students have a variety of reasons to start off their college career at a smaller school and then transfer to UW-Milwaukee to finish their degree. Whether you choose this route because of family, work or money reasons, or because you want to improve your academic credentials so that you meet UW-Milwaukee admission requirements, the Guaranteed Transfer Program is a wonderful option. It means you can begin your education at one of the UW-Colleges, Milwaukee Area Technical College or Madison Area Technical College and then transfer to UWM to finish your major requirements and earn your undergraduate degree.

School/College Information

The UWM school or college to which you apply has certain credit and grade point average requirements which are described below.

School of Architecture and Urban Planning
Contact: Tammy Taylor
Phone: 414-229-4015

Under this program, you are guaranteed admission to the UWM School of Architecture and Urban Planning if you complete a minimum of 24 degree credits at a UW College or Milwaukee Area Technical College and maintain at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average and a 2.0 grade point the term prior to transfer. We strongly encourage our applicants to transfer to UWM upon completion of 24 degree credits. The courses needed to advance to the Architecture Level II Program are not available at the UW Colleges or MATC beyond that point.

Because of the competitive nature of the program, students should strive to be in the 3.3-4.0 GPA range to be competitive.

Peck School of the Arts
Contact: Dinah Gygi
Phone: 414-229-4763

Many of the programs in the Peck School of the Arts require either a portfolio or audition for admission to the school. You must maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average and a 2.0 grade point the term prior to transfer. We offer degrees in Visual Art, Music, Theatre, Dance, Film and Inter Arts. You are encouraged to transfer to UWM after two semesters because specific courses may not be available at your campus. To determine the best time to transfer, please contact the Peck School of the Arts during your first year of enrollment at your institution.
Sheldon B. Lubar School of Business

Phone: 414-229-5271
Under this program, you are guaranteed admission to the business-intended program in the Lubar School of Business if you complete a minimum of 54 credits at a UW College or Milwaukee Area Technical College within three academic years and maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average and a 2.0 grade point the term prior to transfer.

School of Education
Contact: Barbara Logan
Phone: 414-229-2472

Under this program, you are guaranteed admission to the pre-education program in the UWM School of Education if you complete a minimum of 24 credits at a UW College or Milwaukee Area Technical College and maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average and a 2.0 grade point average in the term prior to transfer.

It is important that you understand that a 2.5 grade point average is the minimum requirement for applying to the major upon completion of 58 credits. We strongly recommend that you maintain a minimum cumulative average of 2.5 rather than 2.0. Additionally, we strongly recommend that you contact the School of Education for information about your intended major early in your program, but certainly near the time to transfer.

Under this program, you are guaranteed admission to UWM if you complete a minimum of 54 credits at Milwaukee Area Technical College or a UW College within three academic years and maintain at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average and a 2.5 grade point the term prior to transfer. You must also have a grade of B or higher in one of our required sciences to be admissible to the College of Nursing as a transfer student. This does not mean you have been admitted to the professional nursing major. For some students, it is possible and in some cases advisable to transfer to UWM after 15 but before 54 credits are earned. To determine the best time to transfer, please contact the College of Nursing during your first year of enrollment and stay in contact with her throughout your college career.

The College of Nursing requires you to be admitted to both the University and to the Professional Nursing Major (the clinical program). For admission to UW-Milwaukee, please submit a UW System application for admission (www.apply.wisconsin.edu), high school transcripts, and all college transcripts to UW-Milwaukee prior to February 15 for admission in Fall or December 1 for admission in Spring.

Admission to the professional major is a selective process based on your academic and personal qualifications for baccalaureate study in Nursing, space and resource availability, educational facilities of the School, and other relevant factors. Application for admission to the professional major is made through the College of Nursing Student Affairs Office (135 Cunningham Building). Students should apply six to nine months prior to beginning the clinical portion of the major. The application deadlines are the preceding January 15 for fall applicants and the preceding August 15 for spring applicants.
