This presentation explains how Public Participatory Geographic Information Systems (PPGIS) have been used to encourage youth (K-12) to serve their communities by using the PPGIS approach. Modern information technology has now evolved to the point where people can easily gather information, share it, and use it for planning and decision-making processes. With easily accessible, affordable and available technology, the PPGIS approach is an excellent tool for engaging youth in helping with management of their towns and cities while learning GIS technology and delving into the real stories that abound in their communities.

Learn some basic Python programing skills, allowing you to automate geoprocessing tasks. Learn how to load the ArcGIS Geoprocessor object into Python, manage program flow and decision-making, and make your script available from a custom arc toolbox. We will work through a tutorial and brainstorm ways to implement Python scripts into your own projects.
