Into what "Fund" does my gift go?
Q. Do all gifts to the Annual Fund go into the same account?

A. No, the Annual Fund is not a "fund" in that sense. Your gift to the Annual Fund goes directly into the operating account of whatever area you specify. The Annual Fund name refers instead to the overall program as a source of vital support for UWM. Of course, you can choose to not restrict your gift at all, in which case it will go wherever the University needs it most.

Why are you still calling me?
Q. I have signed up for the National Do Not Call Registry. Will I continue to be called by the University for my annual gift?

A. As a not-for-profit organization, UWM is exempt from the federal government's National Do Not Call Registry. The University uses the phone throughout the year to visit with alumni regarding their interests and only current students are employed to make those calls. This program remains one of the most efficient and cost-effective ways we have of contacting alumni, and is often a pleasurable way for alumni to connect with today's students. However, if you prefer not to be called by UWM, please let us know and we will gladly honor your request.

What if I have two degrees?
Q. I have degrees from two colleges at UWM. Can I make my split my gift between these two areas of the University?

A. Regardless of how you are contacted or for what area of the University, please feel free to make all of your gifts at the same time - just make a note on the pledge form indicating how you would like your annual gift to be allocated or let our student caller know how you would like your gift to be allocated. Or go to our online giving page and select the area (or areas) you wish to support.

Is my gift tax deductible?
Q. Can I deduct my gift from my taxes?

A. Yes, all gifts made to the UWM Foundation are tax deductible as prescribed by law. After receiving your gift, we will send you a receipt that you can use as a record of your charitable gift.

Why does UWM always stress participation?
Q. Many of the calls and letters I get from UWM say that simply participating with the Annual Fund is important. Why?

A. Each year, colleges and universities are ranked by U.S. News & World Report. One of the criteria is the percentage of alumni who make donations to their alma mater (alumni giving). Therefore, each gift helps to raise UWM's national ranking and reputation. In addition, some charitable foundations consider the percentage of alumni giving when evaluating grant applications from universities.
