Charles Schuster received his doctorate from the University of Iowa in 1978 and has been a professor of English at UWM since 1985. He previously served as associate dean for the Humanities (1999-2008), director of the English Composition Program, director of the Writing Center, and was the first director of the Edison Initiative (Freshman Scholars and Peer Mentoring). Former president of the Council of Writing Program Administrators (1994-96) he has been appointed the director of the Council's Writing Program Consultant Evaluator Service. His most recent publication is "Stepping On My Brother's Head" and Other Secrets Your English Professor Never Told You: A College Reader, published by Heinemann-Boynton/Cook, a professional press where Professor Schuster also serves as the College Editor. His other published works include: Speculations (Co-Edited, Blair Press, 1992, 1996), and Rhetorical Choices (Co-Edited, Longman, 2003, 2006); his essays and reviews have appeared in College English, College Composition and Communication, Rhetoric Review, and numerous other scholarly journals and anthologies. Professor Schuster has given national lectures and workshops on the teaching of writing, cultural studies, the essay, writing across the curriculum, and the first-year experience---and he is very pleased to be able to teach both beginning and advanced Honors courses.
