UWM admission does not guarantee you on-campus housing. University Housing houses 3,600 of UWM's 28,000 students. All residents of Sandburg, RiverView, and Purin Halls are required to be full-time students at UWM. How you apply depends on which semester you plan on entering UWM. Read on to determine which method of application pertains to you.

Fall Occupancy

New Residents
You cannot apply online for Fall occupancy! Your application for University Housing is directly tied to your application for admission to UWM. By answering "yes" to the on-campus housing question on your UWM admissions application you will be placed on our list of applicants. It is very important to apply to UWM early if you wish to live in a University Housing facility . The university will begin accepting applications in mid-September each year. Only new freshmen, new transfers, and new special students may enter University Housing in the fall.

Once you have applied via your UWM application, we will send you an acknowledgement beginning early November. Contracts will be sent and a deposit required in January.

Admission to UWM does not guarantee on-campus housing. We routinely have a waiting list of prospective students. You are not guaranteed housing until you receive a contract, return it with a deposit, and receive an acceptance letter from University Housing.

Returning Residents
Contracts will not be handed out automatically. If you wish to receive a contract for the following academic year, you must submit an application online. Applications will be available on the University Housing web site each January (specific dates and further instructions will be placed in residents' mailboxes each December). This is the only time returning residents can apply for housing.

Spring Occupancy

Any current UWM student can apply for Semester 2 (Spring) occupancy on our web site or in person at our offices. New UWM students can apply via their UWM application OR via our web site. Click here to apply.

Summer Housing
Students wishing to apply for summer housing in Sandburg Halls must meet one of the following guidelines:

  • Any UWM student
  • College students participating in any University-sponsored internships with a Milwaukee-based firm.
  • Students attending a special academic program at UWM.

University Housing reserves the right to verify any of the above qualifications.

Contracts are available for 4 weeks or longer. Dates of occupancy are determined by the type of resident. If you need housing for less than 4 weeks, contact Conference and Guest Housing.

Contracts must be received a minimum of 5 business before the desired date of entry. All summer residents are bound to the terms and conditions of the Contract, Contract Book, and University Housing Rules and Regulations.

You can download a summer contract and contract book here beginning mid March each year.
