To assist you with completing the residency policy exemption process, here are some examples of documents that can be used to verify your exempt status. They are sorted by the different types of exemptions. Generally, a student will only need to present ONE of the available options to verify an exemption.
Living With Parent(s)
Official documents need to include the name of the UWM Student and the parent(s) with whom the student will be living.
- Birth Certificate
- Medical Insurance Card
- Notarized Letter
- Tax Forms
Living With Legal Guardian(s)
Official documents need to include the name of the UWM Student and the guardian(s) with whom the student will be living.

- Letter of Authority or Guardianship from the Courts
- Written Power of Attorney from the Parent(s)
- Parent(s)' Last Will and Testament
Living With a Relative
Official documents need to include the name of the UWM Student and the relative(s) with whom the student will be living.

Married
Official documents need to include the name of the UWM Student and the student's spouse.
