enrollment/change period for a variety of employee benefits happens every fall. For detailed information on the specific benefits that can be changed or enrolled in for the first time, please see the links below.
UWM Benefits are administered by the State of Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin System. There are three different categories of eligibility for participation in the UW-Milwaukee benefits program:
WRS-Eligible This category includes all active state and University employees participating in the Wisconsin Retirement System. Typically, faculty, academic staff, limited staff and classified staff who are in 50 - 100% positions qualify.
Graduate Assistants
Graduate Assistants including Research, Project/Program and Teaching Assistants holding a combined appointment of at least 33% with an expected duration of at least one semester (academic basis) or six months (annual basis) duration. Fellows, Scholars, Trainees or Advanced Opportunity Fellows must be receiving a monthly stipend payment at or above the one-third time Research Assistant level.
Short Term Academic Staff Short-Term Academic Staff who are employed in positions not covered under the Wisconsin Retirement System and are holding a fixed-term terminal appointment of at least 28% (academic basis) or 21% (annual basis) with an expected duration of at least six months (one semester for academic basis appointments).
