Faculty are persons who hold the rank of professor, associate professor, assistant professor, or instructor in an academic department or its functional equivalent. The two types of faculty appointments are probationary and tenured.

Academic Staff
Academic staff are teaching and non-teaching professional and administrative personnel, other than faculty and classified staff, with duties and types of appointments that are primarily associated with higher education institutions or their administration.

Probationary
An appointment of not more than 7 years for a full-time position, leading to review and a decision on an indefinite appointment, subject to institution procedures to govern such appointments.

Fixed Term
Appointment for a fixed term, specified in the letter of appointment.
