The Advisory Committee of the UW System Institute on Race and Ethnicity (IRE) plays a key role in enabling the IRE to serve, communicate, and receive input from all the campuses throughout the UW System.

Its composition includes a faculty or teaching academic staff member from each of the UW System's baccalaureate-granting institutions, plus one at-large member representing the UW Colleges and another representing UW-Extension. Appointments are made by the campus provost. Additionally, an ex officio member representing UW System Administration is appointed by the Associate Vice President, Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. The IRE's executive director serves as the chairperson.

The Advisory Committee's duties and responsibilities are:

• Advise the IRE's executive director and the Associate Vice President, Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, regarding the IRE's mission and programmatic activities.
  
  
• Act as the principal liaison between the IRE and the faculty, staff, and administration of their campus. Activities include assistance with the updating of mailing and e-mail lists, publicizing IRE grant opportunities and other events, forwarding relevant campus information for publication in the Kaleidoscope II newsletter and/or posting on the IRE website, and organizing campus visits by IRE staff members.
  
  
• Serve on various IRE subcommittees that are formed for such purposes as the annual grants evaluation process, the recruitment and hiring of IRE staff, future planning, and other special topics as determined by the IRE's executive director and/or the Associate Vice President, Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
