Monitoring Wisconsin

Monitoring Wisconsin is a quarterly review of economic and social issues relevant to the state of Wisconsin. The premier issue of this newsletter was released in March 2004. Since then a new issue is released at the beginning of every quarter. Copies of the newsletter can be downloaded from this page. The Adobe Acrobat Reader™ is required to view these documents.

Monitoring Wisconsin (Spring 2004) - Premier Issue
In the issue of Monitoring Wisconsin, the article "Wisconsin's Labor Market: Cycle or Trend?" examines the effects of the 2001 recession on the labor market in the state of Wisconsin. Finding that the state had significant job losses as a result, it proceeded to compare the state's experience with that of other states and the nation in general. Monitoring Wisconsin (Fall 2004)
The main article in the Fall 2004 issue of the ISPR Monitoring Wisconsin was contributed by Dr. Scott Adams of the Department of Economics at UW-Milwaukee. In the article Dr. Adams summarizes an ongoing study on living wage laws.

Monitoring Wisconsin (Spring 2005)
The main article in the Spring 2005 issue of the ISPR Monitoring Wisconsin was contributed by Dr. Keith Bender of the Department of Economics at UW-Milwaukee. In the article Dr. Bender discusses the issue of economic well-being of the elderly in Wisconsin.       

Monitoring Wisconsin (Summer 2005)
In the Summer 2005 issue of the ISPR Monitoring Wisconsin, Dr. Thomas Moore summarizes his report on Wisconsin Community Benchmark Survey, conducted by the Institute for Survey and Policy Research as part of its annual Wisconsin Poll.

Monitoring Wisconsin (Fall 2005)
The main article in the Fall 2005 issue of the ISPR Monitoring Wisconsin was contributed by Dr. Scott Adams and Chad Cotti of the Department of Economics at UW-Milwaukee. In the article the authors discus the economic effects of bans on smoking in bars and restaurants.       

Monitoring Wisconsin (Winter 2005)
In the Winter 2005 issue of of the ISPR Monitoring Wisconsin, Dr. Nik Heynen presents a summary of his work on the promise of universal free breakfast for hungry children in Milwaukee. Dr. Nik Heynen is Assistant Professor of Geography at UW-Milwaukee.

Monitoring Wisconsin (Spring 2006)
The main article in the Spring 2006 issue of the ISPR Monitoring Wisconsin was contributed by Dr. Scott Drewianka and Dain Johnson of the Dept. of Economics at UW-Milwaukee. In the article the
authors try to measure the effects of Wal-Mart on local labor markets.      

Monitoring Wisconsin (Winter 2007)

The main article in the Winter 2007 issue of the ISPR Monitoring Wisconsin was contributed by Dr. Keith Bender, UW-Milwaukee Dept of Economics. In the article the author examines labor market activity
of older members of society in the state of Wisconsin.
 
Monitoring Wisconsin (Spring 2008)
The main article in the Spring 2008 issue of the ISPR Monitoring Wisconsin was contributed by Prof. Swarnjit Arora, UW-Milwaukee Dept of Economics, Dr. Tom Moore, UW-Milwaukee Dept of Sociology, and Laurie Turtenwald, UW-Milwaukee Dept of Economics. The article examines the welfare caseload in Wisconsin.
