Barbee Essay Competition
Eligibility
The Lloyd A. Barbee Essay Competition is open to all registered students at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Subject Matter
The essay should cover any topic, theme or issue pertaining to the subject matter of Africology.
The essay should be scholarly, no less than twenty-five typed, double-spaced pages. Four copies of the essay should be submitted.
Deadline
The essay shall be submitted to the chair of the department no later than March 15, each year.
Review
The essay shall be reviewed by a departmental review committee of three professors.
Results
Results of the essay competition shall be communicated to participants towards the end of April each year.
Award
If an essay is selected for an award, the awardee will receive the following:
- A cashier's check in the amount of $100.00
- A certificate of merit
- The awardee will be invited to the department's Annual Faculty Award Dinner, held in May each year.
