Biotechnology
Biotechnology, the use of biological processes to produce products of value, has been important to humanity for thousands of years. Recent scientific advances in our understanding of the molecular biology of cells have ushered in a new era of sophisticated biotechnology. The products of modern biotechnology include novel pharmaceutical drugs, transgenic plants, molecular biology tools, novel enzymes with industrial applications, and biofuels. Biotechnology enhances our lives in many ways and is a significant engine for economic development. Faculty and research scientists at UWM with expertise related to biotechnology are found in the departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Physics, and Civil Engineering and Mechanics.Biotechnology Faculty
